Samajwadi Party MP Priya Saroj posted an emotional message on social media following her engagement to Bihar Indian cricketer Rinku Singh, looking back at the journey they embarked on that led to their big day.

The engagement ceremony was on Sunday, and the couple laid out their wedding date as November 18. The celebrations will be staged at the Taj Hotel in Varanasi.

Today has been in our hearts for so long - nearly three years - and the wait was every second worth. Engaged - with full hearts and a forever to go," Priya said on her 'X' account, expressing the elation of the moment.

The function saw the gathering of not only members of the family but also popular political and sports personalities. Samajwadi Party president Akhilesh Yadav, accompanied by Dimple Yadav, Jaya Bachchan, Ram Gopal Yadav, and Shivpal Yadav, were some of the popular personalities that graced the event.

Rajeev Shukla, vice-president of BCCI, also attended the function, congratulating the couple. But some of Rinku's cricket peers failed to join the celebrations as they had already departed for England to gear up for the forthcoming Test series from June 20.

Former Indian bowler Praveen Kumar visited the function and wished the couple well on this new adventure.

Rinku, who hails from Aligarh, has played two One-Day Internationals and 33 T20 Internationals for India. He has become an important cricketer for the Kolkata Knight Riders in the IPL, leading the franchise to the 2024 championship. Priya, 26, is the Machhlishahr MP from Jaunpur and is a first-time MP to Parliament.

A practicing attorney by profession, Priya is renowned for her incisive legal intellect and high voltage political presence. She is from Karkhiyaon village of Varanasi and continues the political tradition of her father, Tufani Saroj—a three-time Member of Parliament and now a Member of Legislative Assembly from Kerakat in Uttar Pradesh.

Joining politics in 2024, Priya impressed in her debut by winning the Machhlishahr Lok Sabha seat, beating experienced BJP leader BP Saroj by over 35,000 votes.
